COE 8363 - Psychological Aspects of Disabilities

Class meets on Monday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. The semester begins on January 8 and ends April 29. All university holidays will be observed.

About Your Instructor:

Dr. Glen R. Hendren, a Professor in the Department of Counselor Education and Educational Psychology and Coordinator of Rehabilitation Counselor Education, received his B.A. degree from Arkansas Tech University, his M.S. from Oklahoma State University, and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Hendren specializes in rehabilitation counseling and in deafness and hearing impairments. Since August 1987, he has received more than 305 hours of Continuing Education Credits for continuation of the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential.

Hendren has been at Mississippi State University since 1988. Prior to joining the faculty at Mississippi State, he was on the faculty at Murray State University in Kentucky.

About the Course:

This course is designed to help the student gain a better understanding of psychological and social ramifications of a disability. The course will examine disability from the perspective of the person who has a disability, that person's family members, and members of the general community.

The course will examine a variety of factors which influence one's reaction to disability. Implications for counseling will be discussed
