The Goals of MAMP
The Mississippi Alliance for Minority Participation is a partner
in nationwide efforts to aid the development of the potential of all citizens
and to encourage underrepresented minorities to pursue scientific and technical
careers so as to ensure that the United States maintains global leadership
in science and technology into the twenty-first century. The MAMP comprises
the state's eight public universities and is one of the first six alliances
funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) with a mission to increase
minority participation in the Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology
(SMET) at various levels of the educational pipeline. The alliance has
already demonstrated success in significantly increasing the level and
quality of minority participation in the undergraduate SMET programs. These
growing numbers of highly talented and qualified minority graduates are
constantly asking questions about opportunities for graduate education.
The MAMP is committed to working with Colleges and Universities across
the nation to increase minority access to graduate education.
