Abstract

Our speaker was the Honorable Paul E. White, Minister Counselor for Development Cooperation, U.S. Agency for International Development, Tokyo, Japan. He flew into Jackson Thursday, July 11, 1996. Paul White is an old friend of ours. We worked with him on activities related to U.S.-Japan Global Partnership. He helped us to establish a joint U.S.-Japan initiative to assist countries in Central Europe in cleaning up their environment. Mr. White briefed the ELF members about the outstanding issues related to American- Japanese cooperation on a bilateral and global scale. He highlighted the problems his busy office is facing daily at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. By explaining the complex interaction of U.S. aid programs in the entire Pacific Rim, we learned how his activities serve our national security interest.
