We are currently examining the impact of Green-tree Reservoir (GTR) management on avian community structure during both the breeding and non-breeding seasons. The goal of GTRs is to provide additional habitat for wintering waterfowl by holding back water in streams and temporarily flooding bottomland hardwood forests during the winter months. At Noxubee NWR, they currently have 4 GTRs and all have been in operation for >30 years. While this practice is common in the southeast, little research has been conducted on their impact on non-game species. This work has been led by my graduate student Mike Husak as part of his dissertation.
