Information, Policies and Procedures
for EN 1113, Composition
II:
Objectives: EN 1113 is the sequential course following EN 1103,
1163, or 1103H. It reinforces the content of the prerequisite course by
expanded study of and practice in stylistics, logic, argumentation, and
research methods. The diverse readings function as source materials for
an extended, documented analytical essay.
Course Work: Each student will write four original essays of 750
words each and one longer original essay of approximately 1500 words.
All drafts of an essay must be submitted with the final version to the
instructor or the composition's grade will become a zero. Students will
receive a critical response on each draft from the instructor or within
a peer response group. Students will participate in a research orientation
at the library as a required part of the course. Students will gather
and document evidence to support theses for research assignments. The
final will consist of a rhetorical analysis (at least 750 words) of a
piece of work provided by the instructor.
