EN 4933/6933 Survey of Contemporary Literature

Patteson

Summer II 10-12

This course touches on a number of trends in European and American literature since the outbreak of World War II. Because the most significant of those trends is in the postmodernist movement, about half the term will be spent on writers (Beckett, Robbe-Grillet, and Pynchon) who mine that vein. We will also consider several important neo-modernist novelists and look at a small selection of contemporary poetry.
