Graduate Fellowships in Areas of National Need

Are you interested in a physics graduate class where the majority of new incoming students are women and minority? Are you looking for a competitive fellowship to finance graduate work?
Starting Fall 2001 the Department of Physics and Astronomy will try to fill 5 GAANN (Graduate Fellowships in Areas of National Need). These five-year fellowships will pay at least $18,000 per year. Tuition and fees will be waived for these fellowships, and additional monies (about $10,000/year/student) to support travel and expenses related to the graduate project will be provided. The applicant must be a women or minority; demonstrate financial need; be a US citizen, permanent resident of the US or be present in the US with the intent to become a permanent resident; and be accepted by the Department of Physics and Astronomy into the Engineering Physics Ph.D. program. More about the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Mississippi State University and the areas of specialization that include computational physics, nuclear physics, atomic and molecular physics, astrophysics, optics, and physics education can be found at this website.
