The department offers several fellowships, research assistantships and teaching assistantships to qualified applicants. In particular the following Fellowships are available:

Graduate Fellowships in Areas of National Need

Are you interested in a physics graduate class where the majority of new incoming students are women and minority? Are you looking for a competitive fellowship to finance graduate work?
Starting Fall 2001 the Department of Physics and Astronomy will try to fill 5 GAANN (Graduate Fellowships in Areas of National Need). These five-year fellowships will pay at least $18,000 per year. Tuition and fees will be waived for these fellowships, and additional monies (about $10,000/year/student) to support travel and expenses related to the graduate project will be provided. The applicant must be a women or minority; demonstrate financial need; be a US citizen, permanent resident of the US or be present in the US with the intent to become a permanent resident; and be accepted by the Department of Physics and Astronomy into the Engineering Physics Ph.D. program. Fellowship for American Students:

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Mississippi State University is seeking an American student to take advantage of a new opportunity in our graduate programs. Beginning Fall 1998, we will be offering a graduate fellowship of $14,400/year. As implied, there are no teaching responsibilities for the recipient as well as a full tuition waiver. The department's main research areas are nuclear, atomic and molecular, physics education, Optics, and Astrophysics.
