Laboratory Operations Manager/Supervisor The Department of Physics and Astronomy seeks a Laboratory Operations Manager/Supervisor who will coordinate activities which support faculty in the teaching of undergraduate courses. This full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure-track position will start in the fall semester 2003 or as soon thereafter as the position can be filled. The competitive salary will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.Primary duties include scheduling and supervision of 20-30 graduate and undergraduate TA’s, scheduling and supervising setup of equipment in six elementary laboratory rooms, purchasing of laboratory and lecture demonstration supplies, maintaining and improving laboratory and demonstration equipment, updating laboratory manuals, and maintaining teaching laboratory records. Other duties include miscellaneous activities required to support and facilitate the smooth functioning of teaching in the department. A minimum of a Bachelors degree in physics or a related field is required. Additional requirements include ability to work effectively with staff, students and the public, knowledge of physics and equipment normally associated with teaching laboratories, and a valid driver’s license. Additional desirable qualities include experience in working in teaching laboratories, experience supervising students, and experience with hand, power, and shop tools.
