David Breaux with Barbour Scholar Mason Hester
Professor David Breaux focuses on American Politics, and specializes in state government and legislative politics. He received his PhD from the University of Kentucky, and has been at MSU since 1989. Professor Breaux teaches specialized courses in State Government, Legislative Process, Dynamics of American Democracy, advises doctoral students on Research Methodology, and teaches introductory courses in American Government. He has published extensively on state legislative politics, campaign financing, and Mississippi electoral politics. Breaux is Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Services of the College of Arts and Sciences. He was previous Head of the Political Science Department, and served as our department's M.A. Coordinator.
Breaux works closely with our students promoting their career development, and has won the Outstanding Political Science Professor award on two occasions. He maintains a national reputation in research, having published articles in such recognized journals as American Politics Quarterly, Legislative Studies Quarterly, and American Review of Politics, and numerous book chapters. Breaux has worked on three prestigious NSF grants involving southern political party activists and computer technology in the classroom. He also conducts research on public policy issues for state government officials.
