ROBERT J. BUCHANAN



Professor Bob Buchanan focuses on health policy and the U.S. health care system. He received his PhD from the University of Virginia, and has been on the faculty at such prominent universities as Cornell, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Texas A&M University, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. A Professor at MSU since 2005, Dr. Buchanan teaches specialized undergraduate and graduate courses in Health Policy, and graduate courses in Health Care Systems, the U.S. Health Care System, and the Policy Research Process.

Buchanan has published approximately one hundred journal articles, focusing most recently on the problems of the elderly, women, the poor, and rural residents and on the diseases of multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS, and numerous diseases affecting nursing home residents. A prolific grantsman with over $4 million of funded research, he has received grants in recent years from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Buchanan is the author of four books, including the co-authored Legal Aspects of Health Care Reimbursement.
