Gerald Andrews Emison

Professor Jerry Emison focuses on public administration and American government. He has extensive public sector management experience, having served for over twenty years in the senior executive service of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as well as at the local government level and as a management consultant to state governments. He received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and he also holds master's degrees in political science and regional planning from UNC-CH. His experience in the federal government is an asset to our students interested federal service, such as in the prestigious PMF program.

Professor Emison specializes in public organization and administrative management and has taught courses in national environmental policy, public policy analysis and management of international development. He has additional teaching interests in program evaluation and city planning.

Professor Emison's research interests concern effectiveness of public institutions, professionalism in planning and engineering as well as the environmental consequences of growth. He has published in such journals as Journal of Science and Engineering Ethics, Leadership Review, Regional Environmental Change, Engineering Management Journal, the Journal of Professional Issues in Engineering Education and Practice and the William and Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review.
