Dr. Brian Shoup is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration where he teaches classes in the areas of comparative politics and international relations. He comes to us from Indiana University, where he served as Associate Director of the Indiana Democracy Consortium.
Professor Shoup is the author of the book Conflict and Cooperation in Multi-Ethnic States: Institutional Incentives, Myths, and Counterbalancing, and an editor of the book US-Indian Strategic Cooperation into the 21st Century: More than Words. He has also published in Journal of Democracy, and is active in making presentations at professional conferences. His dissertation topic was on "Institutional Incentives, Interethnic Myths and Ethnic Conflict in Counterbalanced States," for which he traveled extensively in the South Pacific to gather data.
Dr. Shoup holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Indiana Universitsy with specialties in Comparative Politics and Public Policy. His BA in Political Science is from Creighton University. Shoup has also administered a major grant from the McCormick Tribune Foundation to sponsor a conference on "Nation-Building in the Contemporary Islamic World: U.S. Intervention in Iraq and Afghanistan."
