The John C. Stennis Scholarships in Political Science are offered by Mississippi State University's Department of Political Science and Public Administration. They are provided to highly qualified freshman undergraduates and community college graduates.
MSU proudly offers graduating high school seniors and community college graduates John C. Stennis Scholarships in Political Science. The Stennis Scholarships, established to honor this illustrious alumnus of the University, are annually awarded to promising young Mississippians with a strong commitment to public service.
We invite the nomination and application of eligible students. The Scholarship continues for four years for the high school recipients (two years for the community college graduate), or until graduation (whichever comes first). However, students must continue to major in political science and maintain a cumulative "B" (3 point) average with a normal academic course load of at least fifteen hours per semester. The Scholarship includes an Educational Enhancement Fund stipend of $1,600 per high school recipient ($1,000 per community college recipient), usually used for internships in Washington D.C.
Stennis Scholars receive a stipend of $2,000 per year for the time periods and under the conditions specified above. Stennis Scholars also have access to the Educational Enhancement Fund for travel and internships as noted above. The mere designation as a Stennis Scholar is an honor which brings special recognition on campus and in Washington, D.C., and Scholars are invited to special programs and become members of the Political Science Scholars Forum organization. Applicants are encouraged to also apply for other university scholarships.
