About Us

We are physically located in Starkville, Mississippi and are a part of this cohesive town - university community in the eastern part of north-central Mississippi.

Our beautiful award-winning campus is home to over 16,000 students and is located 23 miles west of Columbus, 125 miles northeast of the capital city of Jackson.

Designated as a Doctoral I university by the Southern Regional Education Board, Mississippi State University is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Mississippi State University's Department of Animal Science is recognized the world over. The 17-member faculty continues to receive university, national and international awards for excellence in teaching, research and extension. A highly ranked undergraduate program gives students top priority. In addition, the department provides multiple resource facilities for international agriculture and market development.

This 20-by-5 foot mural originally hung in Ballew Hall. It was retouched by its original and nationally acclaimed artist, Orren Mixer, and moved to the fourth floor of the Wise building in 2003. The 1963 painting is of MSU's South Farm.
