Students
Curriculum
The Animal and Dairy Sciences curriculum is designed to
allow the student the flexibility to take the courses
that are most suited to the student's goals.
All Mississippi State University students must complete the university's required core courses. Additionally, within our department, there are core courses in the animal sciences and students must also pick from one of three options:
- Production/business
management
Those in the production/business curriculum must select a species emphasis (meat animal, dairy or equine) and complete 12 hours of business electives. - Science
Science electives must complete the science option, 6 - 8 hours of science electives, and 8 - 14 hours of free electives. - Pre-veterinary
3+1 program
All of the students in the pre-veterinary 3+1 program must complete the science option. Those that then successfully gain admission to, and complete, the first year of veterinary school will earn a B.S. degree in Animal and Dairy Science.
