North American archaeology carried out through the Cobb Institute centers in
the southeastern U.S., especially Mississippi. Listed below are some of the
current projects in the area. Since Mississippi State University is located
next to Starkville, Mississippi, in Oktibbeha County and adjacent to
Lowndes and Clay Counties, much of the fieldwork involving the archaeologists
and student technicians occurs in these places.
Archaeological materials and data are generally processed in the Cobb in the archaeology and osteology labs and in the environmental archaeology lab, with some exceptions (e.g., samples sent to other labs for specialized analyses). |
