MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY

ACADEMIC OPERATING POLICY AND PROCEDURE

MEMORANDUM TO: All Holders of Mississippi State University Academic
Operating Policy and Procedure Manual
DATE: April, 1989
Revised – November 25, 2005
SUBJECT: AOP 11.01 - University Honors Program, Division of Academic Affairs

PURPOSE

The purpose of this Academic Operating Policy and Procedure (AOP) is to promote an understanding of the Mississippi State University Honors program.

REVIEW

This AOP will be reviewed every five years (or whenever circumstances require an earlier review) by the Director of the Honors Program with recommendations for revision presented to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

POLICY/PROCEDURE

  1. A challenging variation of the standard curriculum, through which many undergraduate students throughout the University enrich their academic experiences, is the University Honors Program. For many courses both required and elective, Honors sections have been established. These are limited enrollment sections taught by designated faculty members. There are Honors courses and seminars in addition to these sections of regular courses. To enroll in Honors courses, one must have been admitted to the program, which is University-wide. Requirements for joining the program and a full explanation of its phases and offerings can be found in the University catalog (consult the index).

  2. Students who complete Phase I and/or Phase II of the University Honors Program are identified as participants in the Program; their achievement is noted in all official University records.
