
STUDENT AFFAIRS OP 91.177: Extended Orientation for International Students

Purpose
To require an extended orientation period for all international students (defined as non-resident aliens) enrolled for the first time at Mississippi State University.
Policy
It is the policy of Mississippi State University that all international students enrolled for their first semester at Mississippi State University shall be required to attend the Extended International Student Orientation provided by Admissions and Scholarships to facilitate international students’ adjustment to life in the United States, their integration into the Mississippi State University educational system and campus community, and to enable them to make informed decisions affecting their immigration status.
Procedure
All international students enrolled for the first time at Mississippi State University are required to attend the Extended International Student Orientation program during their first term of enrollment at the university. In cases where unavoidable conflicts exist in a student’s schedule, the Director of Admissions and Scholarships will approve alternate arrangements for a student to enable him/her to meet this requirement.
Review
The Vice President for Student Affairs is responsible for the review of this operating policy every four years or as needed.
