STUDENT AFFAIRS OP 91.353: Required Accommodations in Programs, Activities, and Special Events on Campus

Date: January 5, 2007

Purpose

To provide uniform guidelines regarding the provision of services necessary to comply with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and other applicable stated and federal laws.

Policy

The policy of Mississippi State University is to make its programs, services, and activities accessible to students, faculty, staff, and the general public with disabilities who visit or attend a campus-sponsored program or event.

Guidelines

1.   Persons attending university programs who are “qualified individuals with disabilities” will be provided with reasonable accommodations provided sufficient prior notification is given to the university when outside resources are required such as the provision of interpreters.

2.   Funding for accommodations is the responsibility of the department sponsoring the activities and will be handled in the same fashion as any other departmental expenditure. If a department has insufficient funds, it must seek additional funding through its regular administrative channels or resources.

3.   The Office of Student Support Services may be called on to advise and assist departments in securing the appropriate accommodation.

Review

The Vice President for Student Affairs is responsible for the review of this operating policy every four years or as needed.
