THE UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM

Biochemistry and molecular biology are disciplines involved at the cutting edge of a revolution in biology. Molecular methods and the use of genetic engineering have given scientists unprecedented power to begin to understand the chemistry of life processes. The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology aims to prepare students at Mississippi State in this exciting area.

The curriculum leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. The objective of this curriculum is to provide the student with a strong background in science as part of a liberal education and also to prepare the student for professional work and/or graduate study.  We have sufficient flexibility in our requirements such that a student can choose any of several areas of specialization by appropriate use of elective hours. These specialization areas include the following:

Typical Schedule

Pre-veterinary medicine

(Pre-vet majors should also review the information found under "Pre-Veterinary Medicine Through the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology"

Pre-medicine and pre-dentistry

(Pre-med majors should also review the information found under "Pre-Medical Studies at MSU"

Standard graduate school track

Bioinformatics track

Pre-business option (including a 4+1 MBA or Master's of Agribusiness Management)

Forensics Sciences track
