During the last 25 years my laboratory has successfully determined the quantitative requirements of several essential nutrients for the channel catfish including amino acids, fatty acids, minerals and selected vitamins. Additional studies have included protein and energy requirements, digestible protein and energy determinations, amino acid availability determinations, and various studies on nutrient utilization and retention by the channel catfish.
Our current research has expanded into studies on the basic nutrition of hybrid striped bass. We are presently investigating the effects of water temperature on nutrient utilization and retention by hybrid striped bass. I serve as Graduate Coordinator for our Graduate Program in Nutrition. This program offers both the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The Nutrition Program is interdisciplinary involving the departments of Animal and Dairy Sciences, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Poultry Science, Wildlife and Fisheries and School of Human Sciences.
