Statement of Research Interests
Research in my laboratory concerns questions of early embryonic development and developmental processes. We are interested in learning more about the mechanisms involved in embryonic cell migration and differentiation. The embryonic neural crest, and in particular the pigment cell lineage of the crest, of the Axolotl (an aquatic salamander) and Zebrafish are model systems used in these studies. The pleuripotential nature of the neural crest cell population gives us the opportunity to ask questions about stem cell biologies and transdifferentiation events, all in the attempt to understand more about cell-decision making processes during development.
