Katrina poems:
The Humanities in Relief
Put Your Poetry to Work!! Hurricane Katrina's devastation of the Mississippi and Louisiana coast has impacted everyone in the region and beyond. As a result, many have wanted to help in any way they can by sending clothing and supplies or by traveling to the coast to do volunteer work. Clearly, all of these efforts have benefited the victims, but might not be viable options for some who are looking for a way to help. Katrina Poems: The Humanities in Relief offers an alternative way for people not only to help in the relief effort, but also to share their experiences, impressions, emotions about the storm and its aftermath. The Institute for the Humanities at Mississippi State University solicits poems (in any form) of no more than 50 lines on a Hurricane Katrina subject. A selection of the poems submitted will be presented, in rotation, on the IH web page www.msstate.edu/dept/IH/Humanities.html. From all of the poems submitted, a final collection will be included in a book to be published at a later date. Submission Guidelines: --One poem of no more than 50 lines, typed on standard white
paper, with the author's name and city or town, and an email address (optional)
for notification of acceptance. Send submissions to: Katrina Poems (All funds collected under Katrina Poems will be donated to the Katrina Relief Fund for Mississippi) |
