Chemistry I and II (fall '08, spring '09)

Textbook, OWL and Clicker Required

Chemistry I (CH 1213) and II (CH 1223) both use "Chemistry: The Molecular Science; Moore, Stanitski and Jurs" 3rd Ed., ISBN: 049510521X. OWL can be purchased bundled with the text (at substantial discount). Study guides etc. are optional. Chapters 1-10 are covered in CH 1213; chapters 11-20 in CH 1223. If your major only requires CH 1213, consider buying a partial text.

Textbook

The MSU bookstore sells "custom" loose-leaf versions (to insert into a ring binder) and are bundled with a 6-month OWL subscription and a $15.00 mail-in rebate coupon for the required clicker. They allow you to carry small sections of the text to class. The pages are identical to those in the bound editions, but bookstores will not buy back loose-leaf texts.

If you prefer a coventional hardcover bound book bundled with OWL (but no clicker rebate) consider the publisher's online store:

OR, the same book in two hardcover bound volumes:

Other online stores may be even cheaper.

Online Homework (OWL)

If you own a used text, or a new text without OWL, buy a 6-month OWL code online ($33.49). Consider a 1-year code ($46.49) if you will also take chemistry II. ThomsonNOW, CengageNOW and infoTRAC are self-study tools; they are NOT substitutes for OWL.

Clickers

One audience response device ("clicker") will work in all current (and future) MSU classes and it can be purchased at the bookstore ($26). You will only need one activation code for all clicker classes in any single semester and this code can be bought at the bookstore ($19) or online when you register the clicker for the class.
