The Department of Chemistry offers three undergraduate degree programs. Students may also choose to follow a pre-pharmacy program of studies:
BS (ACS Certified) [requirements] [sample curriculum]
An American Chemical Society Certified degree is the preferred program of study for students planning to attend graduate school in chemistry or to work as a chemist in an industrial setting.
BS [requirements] [sample curriculum]
BS (Premedical Emphasis) [requirements] [sample curriculum]
The B.S. degree is less intensive in chemistry, math, and physics than the ACS certified degree. It allows more technical electives to be taken, and it is the program of choice for Pre-medical Chemistry majors. It is particularly attractive to students who want to satisfy the requirements for two majors.
BA [requirements] [sample curriculum]
A technical degree that also includes a large component of humanities and social sciences. B.A. graduates can attend law school, work in chemical sales, and teach at the high-school level.
Pre-Pharmacy Program [requirements] [sample curriculum]
A program intended for students who wish to obtain a Pharmacy degree. No degree will be granted from Mississippi State University, and there are thus no university or college requirements. It satisfies the entrance requirements for the School of Pharmacy at the University of Mississippi. Most pharmacy schools have similar requirements, but you should check the specific requirements for any other school.
