Greenhouse Tomato Short Course Jackson, Mississippi

Both a 10-DVD set of the entire three days of the 2007 Greenhouse Tomato Short Course and a two-inch binder with all of the Extension publications and PowerPoint presentation handouts will be available for purchase very soon. You will be able to buy the DVD’s, the notebook, or both.

The 10 DVD Set is now ready to order. You can order the DVD's and the Greenhouse Tomato Reference Notebooks by printing out the Order Form and mailing it in with a check or money order.

Next Short Course

The Greenhouse Tomato Short Course will be March 4-7, 2008 (check back for more information). The first three days, Tuesday through Thursday, will be seminars, with a greenhouse tour on Friday. This will be the 18th year this program is being provided for growers.

The Greenhouse Tomato Short Course is now held at Eagle Ridge Conference Center in Raymond, MS, a few miles southwest of Jackson.

The Short Course this year is supported by a partnership agreement with the USDA Risk Management Agency. Their financial support is greatly appreciated to make the Short Course bigger and better than ever for the benefit of the growers. Part of this funding is being used to cover the expenses for training Agents and Specialists from Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi. By implementing this "train the trainer" technique, we hope to extend the information presented into the counties of this 5-state region.

The Short Course, at Eagle Ridge Conference Center, will be from 8:30 am to 6 pm Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Thusday evening we will have a Panel Discussion and Supper, so any remaining questions will be handled at that time.

The registration is $125 in advance, or $150 at the door, for the entire event. This fee includes several meals, coffee & cold drinks, refreshments, and a complete reference notebook including speaker handouts and extension bulletins.

You are encouraged to register in advance to help estimate materials and meals. Those who do will receive a Greenhouse Tomato Short Course all cotton hat, a real collector's item, as well as a 14-ounce tomato coffee mug.

Last year, growers came from 26 states and several countries. Eagle Ridge Conference Center is conveniently located on Highway 18, just off Interstate 20, west of Jackson. It is about a 30-minute drive (25 miles) from the Jackson Evers International Airport (code: JAN). We look forward to seeing you at the 18th annual Greenhouse Tomato Short Course.

• How do I get from the hotels to Eagle Ridge Conference Center? Most of the hotels are at the Springridge Road exit (exit 36) from Interstate 20, about a 12 minute drive away on scenic country roads. Head south on Springridge Road for 4 miles, turn right at the light on Highway 18 (heading southwest) and go 4.5 miles, then left on Raymond Lake Road, at the Eagle Ridge Conference Center sign. • Is there anything else I can do while at the Short Course? Yes there is. If you like to golf, Eagle Ridge has its own 18-hole golf course and pro shop, and has lots of great features on their beautiful 28-acre site overlooking Raymond Lake.
• Is there anything else I can do while visiting Jackson, MS area? Yes. There are lots of tourist attractions and special events in Jackson.
