Department of Curriculum,Instruction and Special Education
The Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education is an innovative and dynamic department within the College of Education. The department offers NCATE accredited undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs   (at the Main campus and at the Meridian campus) in elementary education, secondary education,special education and curriculum and instruction. Students can pursue a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, an education specialist degree, and/or a doctorate degree.
The department’s degree programs attract outstanding students from the southern states and beyond. Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education has a first class suite of research projects with more than $8 million in grants and contracts annually. Central to the department’s research program is the Early Childhood Institute. These research projects provide faculty with unique opportunities to pursue their research interests and to participate as integral members of a vibrant and collegial team who are committed to improving teaching and learning through research. The curricula focus on interactive, innovative teaching and learning with an emphasis on both problem-based learning and field-based experiences. The department is highly rated by its graduates and their employing authorities.
