MCNEILL RESEARCH UNIT

FACILITIES

McNeill Unit has 373 acres and is currently being used for beef cattle and forestry research. In 1991, 30 acres of land was leased to the USDA Small Fruits Research Station to expand their planting of blueberries and muscadines. In 1989, approximately 40 acres of pasture land was planted to loblolly pine in a row spacing that would allow grazing. In 1996, another forestry project was initiated to evaluate long leaf, loblolly and slash pines planted at three different row spacing/populations. An additional 20 acres were planted in 1997. A small planting of tung was made in 1996 and 1997 to evaluate planting methods and weed control studies.
