A major indicator of business success is return on investment.
A safe and healthful workplace will reduce employers' cost of doing
business and contribute to their return on investment in both the
short and the long term. Using the CSH is using the employers' own
tax dollars to help reduce costs. The
CSH is 90% funded through OSHA and 10% by the State of Mississippi. As stated, the service is free in that
the company pays no fees to the University for the consultation service
although the employer may incur cost to correct any hazards that might
be identified. The consultant
does not issue citations or propose penalties. Another benefit
of using the CSH is that the service is confidential.
No state or federal agency is notified that the consultation
has taken place. The Consultation Program is independent of Federal
or State OSHA enforcement. By voluntarily correcting
safety and health hazards in the workplace and developing required
programs and training the employees on the programs, the employer
shows a good-faith effort to the company employees and federal and
state regulatory agencies.
