the first known illustration of Caliban.
The course will focus on a close reading and analysis of Shakespeare's Romances: Pericles, Cymbeline, The Winter's Tale, and The Tempest. We will investigate these plays not only as texts in themselves, but we will also compare and contrast them to the comedies and tragedies, so a working knowledge of some of the earlier plays would be helpful (but not required).
