Tesol Supplemental Endorsement
AT MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY

The TESOL supplemental endorsement is open to undergraduates in Education. The supplemental endorsement requires fifteen hours of course work (12 hours if began before the Fall 2006 semester):

  • EN 4403 Introduction to Linguistics (fall/spring)
  • EN 3423 Descriptive English Grammar (fall) or EN 4443 English Syntax (spring)
  • EN 4463 Studies in Second Language Acquisition (fall)
  • EN 4433 Approaches to TESOL (spring)*
  • EN 4453 Methods in TESOL (fall)*
  • * EN 4990/6990, TESOL Practicum can be substituted for either of these classes. The TESOL Practicum class is a study abroad class (Mexico) offered in the summer. This class can only be taken once.

To be eligible for institutional recommendation from Mississippi State University for a supplemental endorsement in teaching English as a second language, a valid Mississippi educator’s license in a subject area is required.

Benefits of a TESOL Supplemental Endorsement

Holders of a TESOL supplemental endorsement and a Mississippi educator’s license are more marketable within the state of Mississippi as well as outside the state. Not only are educators with a TESOL supplemental endorsement better prepared to teach in multi-lingual environments, but they are also uniquely placed to meet the growing demand for second language education.
