Economics Club - Omicron Delta Epsilon

What is the Economics Club - Omicron Delta Epsilon?

Our official name is "The Association of Economics Scholars-Omicron Delta Epsilon" but most people know us as simply the "Econ Club." According to our constitution, we "believe students at Mississippi State University interested in high scholastic achievement in economics should be associated for the purposes of professionalism and academic advancement." The Econ Club welcomes the membership of anyone interested in economics and economic events. You do not have to be an economics major to join.

What does the Econ Club do?

The Econ Club sponsors a number of social and academic events during each semester. These events are often centered around presentations by guest speakers from on and off campus. Our guest discuss important current economic events and issues and relate textbook economics to the real world. Topics of recent Econ Club symposiums include "The Global Economy," "Adventures South of the Border - The Mexican Economy," "Yankee Economics," "The Economics of Trick-or-Treat," and "The Uruguay Round Debate." The Econ Club is also known for the great food we serve at our social hours following the presentations. In addition to hosting our regular symposiums, the Econ Club is active in promoting the economics curriculum and major here at MSU. We are involved in designing and distributing recruiting materials and brochures. The Econ Club is also an activ member of the College of Business and Industry's council of student organizations.

How can someone become a member of the Econ Club?

Anyone with an interest in economics can be a member of our organization. Membership is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. There are two levels of membership status. Regular membership is open to everyone. Honors Membership requires a minimum overall 3.00 GPA and at least 12 hours of economics credit, with a 3.0 GPA. Those meeting the honors requirement become lifetime members of International Omicron Delta Epsilon Honor Society in Economics.
