Articles for the analyst, consultant, college student, planner, and scientist are more likely to be research publications that are indexed in the http://www.treesearch.fs.fed.us which somewhat replaces FS bibliography database. Some FS research Web sites also maintain citation databases or bibliographic lists organized by subject matter. Among them are the Forest Inventory and Analysis bibliography of FIA data uses, and others listed by FS research area, program, or unit. In addition, one may search for online information from the FS research division. Other divisions of the FS have extension publications, brochures, leaflets, and pamphlets and general interest articles for the casual or entry-level reader, which may be found through other USDA FS divisions.

Periodically, each Station distributes  a list of recent publications which may include articles by Station scientists published elsewhere in journals, books, other media, and presentations at scientific meetings. The list includes information for ordering paper copies at no cost while supplies last. Many lists also include publication abstracts.
