Dietetic Internship/Graduate Studies

Application Procedure : Class of 2008

The application must be complete and postmarked by February 2008 deadline for the April computer match to be considered. The applicant is responsible for completion of the application materials. The completed application materials must be word processed or typed.  Application materials will not be returned.

The complete MSU Dietetic Internship/Graduate Studies program application packet must include the following to be considered:

  1. American Dietetic Association Supervised Practice Application (CLICK for fillable PDF format) (CLICK for MSWord format)
  2. Letter of application (limit 500 words) that includes:
    • reason(s) for selecting food and nutrition as a career
    • professional goals (short-term and long-term)
    • reason(s) for applying to the MSU Dietetic Internship/Graduate Studies Program
    • research experience and/or research interest
  3. Résumé
  4. Official transcripts from all universities and colleges attended. A final official transcript will be required of all applicants accepted.
  5. Letters of recommendations from three professionals on the forms provided (sealed in a business envelope with recommender's signature on the outside flap). One must be from the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) Program Director or major professor, and one reference must be from a work experience supervisor(Click for fillable PDF format) (CLICK for Form in MS Word firmat).
  6. Declaration of Intent to Complete Degree and/or CADE-Approved Minimum Academic Requirements form. This form should be completed and signed by both the applicant and the DPD Program Director. The Verification of Completion of Program Form is required for an applicant who has already graduated. This form is available at the applicant's school through the DPD Program Director and must be no more than 5 years old.
  7. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores for the general test.  A minimum of 800 (verbal, quantitative) is required. Application will not be reviewed without a GRE score. Send your GRE scores directly to the MSU Dietetic Internship/Graduate Studies Program Director in addition to checking MSU on the Institution Code list (#1480) when the GRE is taken. 
  8. Application fee. Make check or money order for $40.00, payable to the MSU Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion. The fee will cover processing of your application and is not refundable.

Please make sure that you have specified the appropriate computer matching code.

The application packet should be postmarked no later than February 2008 deadline for the April computer match. We recommend that the completed application materials be sent via certified mail with a return receipt.

If you want documentation that the application has been received, send it “return-receipt” or include a self-addressed stamped postcard which will be mailed back to you.

Computer Matching Procedure

All applicants to the MSU Dietetic Internship/Graduate Studies Program must participate in computer matching.  Applicants should request instructions and a mark/sense card to prioritize DI preferences.  Applicants should request this material from any ADA Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) Program Director or D & D Digital Systems.  This request should be made to allow turn around time for material by postmark deadline.  There is no charge for this material.  However, there is a $50.00 charge for computer matching that is due with the applicant's prioritized ranking.

Appointment Procedure

D & D will notify each applicant to which, if any, dietetic internship program they have been matched and will provide each Dietetic Internship Director with a list of applicants matched to their program.  

Appointees to MSU Dietetic Internship/Graduate Studies Program are to phone, fax, or e-mail the program director on appointment date between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST to confirm the acceptance or rejection of the appointment.  Within 48 hours of the phone, fax, or e-mail, communication, appointees must respond in writing of their acceptance of the appointment.

Interns who accept the appointment to the MSU Dietetic Internship/Graduate Studies Program must apply and be accepted to the MSU Graduate Studies Master of Science in Food Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion.
