Introduce weather conditions and forecast for day and three day.


Compare three day to past, present and future.
Collect weather data for climatology completion activity for Maryland.

Individual presentations will be given on the following topics:

Drive to Conowingo, Maryland
(9AM)
While driving, a brief introduction to the Conowingo Dam will be given.

Tour the Conowingo Hydroelectric Power Plant
(9:30AM)

Walk to picnic area located on the lower side of the Conowingo Dam
(10:30AM)

Here, students will be broken into 4 groups.  Each group will be given a water quality testing kit and will be asked to hike to 1 of 4 locations to test a water sample of the Susquehanna River in relation to the Conowingo Dam.


Once data has been collected, groups will come together and share information.

Groups will then split up and hike the Mason Dixon Trail to observe the environments on either side of the dam.

Once observations have been collected, and re-grouped, differing environments and causes will be discussed.

Groups will then work on the Environmental Concerns of the Conowingo Dam activity, and attempt to hypothesize a solution to the problem.

Each group will briefly present their solution to the problem of sediment build-up.

Drive to Havre de Grace, Maryland
(2:30PM)

While driving, a brief introduction to the Susquehanna Museum and the Susqehanna & Tidewater Canal will be given.
 
 

Guided Tour of the Susquehanna Museum
(3PM)

 

Hiking to Remains of Canal
(4PM)

Students will break into groups to hike to the remains of the canal, observe and analyze the remains, obtain and analyze water quality, completing information in the notebooks, and hypothesize the environmental impacts the canal had on the local environment.

Once regrouped, the students will compare environmental impacts of both the Susquehanna & Tidewater Canal and the Conowingo Dam, in a group discussion.

Students will present any findings they find relevant to the discussion.
