Handouts given for completion in notebooks 

Introduce weather conditions and forecast for day and three day.

Compare three day to past, present and future.
Collect weather data for climatology completion activity for Maryland.

Individual presentations will be given on the following topics:

• Impacts of quarries on surrounding environments
• What steps quarry corporations have taken to ensure environmental protection

Drive to LaFarge Quarry

Churchville, Maryland
(9AM)

While driving, a brief introduction to the LaFarge Quarry will be given.

Students will be broken into groups to complete the Mineral and Rock Identification.

Once groups have concluded names of the samples, the whole group will come together to compare answers.

A discussion/debate will be lead, with a comment or idea shared from every group member, on the envirmental impacts a quarry can/may have on the surrounding environment.

After discussion/debate has concluded, a friendly fire-starting competition to end the daily activities.

• While at the Arundel Quarry, group members obtained a piece of Quartz.

Using a steel file and a brillo pad, individuals must rub the quartz and steel file together to create a spark and catch the brillo pad on fire.

• First one to start a fire gets their dinner paid for by group leader.

Before breaking for dinner, weather data will be collected for for climatology completion activity for Maryland

Drive to hotel, Dinner, Time to complete daily activities in notebooks.
