The Wetland Research Center is a U.S. Department
of the Interior center with 150 employees located in the UL Lafayette University
Research Park.
The mission of the center is to foster
the growth of programs in ecology, wildlife and wetlands research; address
issues of national and regional importance such as wetlands loss, wetlands
restoration, deterioration of wildlife habitats, and accumulation of toxic
contaminants.
The Wetland Research center has its own small swamp located outside of the building. Here local schools can participate in learning about wetlands without traveling very far. The center also provides educational material to teachers and allows them use their resources, including an excellent library.
