Upper Michigan

 

Introduction

Michigan's Upper Peninsula is nearly surrounded by the Great Lakes of Superior, Michigan and Huron. My home will provide TiG students a natural gateway to a beautiful and diverse geological landscape.

The purpose of this trip is to explore the many treasures this area has to offer. Students will gain a better understanding of the material covered in our TiG program, as well as enjoy a rich culture born of what many consider a harsh environment.

Our week-long field study will take us around the perimeter of the Upper Peninsula. What follows is a brief overview of the stops we will be making during our trip. Each of these stops will be discussed in further detail on the Teacher Information and daily trip summary pages.

Day 1: Big John Iron Mine, Cornish Pump & Mining Museum, Bat Cave.

Day 2: A.E.Seaman Mineral Museum, Coppertown U.S.A., Rock & Mineral Club.

Day 3: Isle Royale National Park

Day 4: Isle Royale National Park

Day 5: Munising Information Center and Munising Falls Interpretive Center, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Day 6: Seney Wildlife Refuge, Tahquamenon Falls State Park

Day 7: Soo Locks, Mackinac Bridge, Lakeshore Dunes
