Day 2

Day 2 will be spent entirely on the Konza Prairie Biological Station doing the activities outlined for the
One Day Field Trip.


7:30 - 8:15
Breakfast
8:15 - 9:00
Meet the Environmental Educator who will be with the group.  Watch a video in the visitors' center that will explain some of the LTER research at Konza.
9:00 - 12:00
Go on the three mile nature walk and do activities related to prairie geology, ecology etc.  
12:00 - 1:00
Picnic on the Prairie at Kings Creek (pre-arranged with docent) and clean up
1:00 - 4:00
Stream activities at Kings Creek and return to headquarters.
4:00 - 5:00
Observe buffalo at the corral at headquarters, and take a bus ride through the buffalo enclosure of the research station. Return and have discussions with any LTER scientists present.
5:00 -9:00
Clean-up and go to Manhattan for the evening meal and exploration.
9:00-??
Return to the Konza for a star party

The motto for the State of Kansas is "Ad Astera Per Aspera", meaning "To the stars through difficulty".
The pioneers who made this motto did indeed have many difficulties, but finding the stars was not one of them.  There is usually excellent viewing at the Konza. Some of the activities will include:

To Day 3
