Ruffner Mountain

Today's field trip will take place at Ruffner Mountain which is a nature preserve located in Birmingham, Alabama.  Ruffner Mountain was an iron ore mining community from the 1880's to the 1950's.  This mountain has also yielded sandstone, limestone and timber which helped further develop the surrounding areas.   Ruffner Mountain is open to the public from 9 AM to 5 PM Tuesday through Saturday and Sunday from 1 PM to 5PM.  There is no charge for the general public to come to the facility, but donations are encouraged.  We will be participating in a special program today for which the cost is $10 per person.
