I grew up close to the heart of
"Dixie Alley" in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. At a young age, I developed an
intense passion for meteorology, especially severe weather. There
was not one specific weather event that got me interested, but
rather, going to the hall during tornado warnings really interested
and intrigued me.
While I always knew I wanted to be
a meteorologist, I didn't know in exactly which fashion. This led
me to pursue my B.S. at Mississippi State and emphasize in broadcast
meteorology. After four years, I didn't want to do broadcast
meteorology, so I decided to pursue a master's while completing the
federal meteorology requirements. After another two years, I decided
I didn't want to pursue the National Weather Service option, so I
chose the final option -- teaching. I'm thankful I discovered
teaching because I enjoy teaching and encouraging students to get
fired up about the science of meteorology.
In my spare time, I enjoy watching and playing football, basketball,
and baseball. I am a diehard Alabama football fan and keep up with
football 365.25 days a year -- a standard in the South. I also enjoy
my daily fix of Toaster StrudelsTM for breakfast.
My research interests include thermodynamic environments of
tornadoes and mesoscale impacts and influences on severe local
storms.
