Renny Vandewege grew up in the
"Tornado Alley" location of Lincoln, Nebraska. What started out as a fear of weather grew into a passion during the Nebraska Derecho of July 8, 1993 which proved to be one of the costliest single storms in Nebraska history.
Before coming to Mississippi State, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Geography (broadcasting minor) from Northwest Missouri State University. At Mississippi State, he earned a Master's of Science in Geosciences with emphasis in Broadcast Meteorology.
Renny has worked as a commercial broadcast meteorologist at WTOK TV in Meridian, MS, covering Hurricane Dennis, historic Hurricane Katrina, and a tornado outbreak from Hurricane Rita. He also worked as a meteorologist/weather producer at KCTV in Kansas City, MO. He enjoys teaching, developing, and
evaluating on-air talent as well as following rapid changes in the broadcast meteorology industry.
In his spare time, Renny is an avid storm chaser, golfer, and diehard fan of Nebraska athletics. |
