Tim Wallace was born in Savannah, Tennessee in the midst of a January ice storm. Maybe the ice storm started his fascination with the weather or it might have been the Tornado Outbreak of 1974 when a tornado threatened his home in Parsons, Tennessee.
Tim graduated from Riverside High School in 1988. He enrolled at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. He began his pursuit of a degree in geology, of all things, before a class in Invertebrate Paleontology helped return him to his first love, the weather. Tim transferred to Memphis State University and started classes in their fledgling meteorology program.
Tim was accepted into the master’s program in Geosciences at Mississippi State. He graduated in 1994 and entered the real world.
Work Experience
Group Data Services/Cardinal 400
Starting in the exciting world of nightly data processing Tim progressed steadily up the ladder of success until he dove headlong into the thrill-a-minute arena of customer support. Tim has a few interesting stories from these times, especially about the high stress world of Oklahoma banking. To this day the sound of a pager makes him cringe.
Mississippi State University, Department of Geosciences (Phase 1)
Tim was hired by his alma mater to manage the day-to-day operations of the Climatology Laboratory. Gradually, he moved into teaching. He handled Weather Analysis 1 for two semesters where he taught the meteorologists of tomorrow the intricacies of ASOS, METAR and DIFAX.
Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation
Joining the Division of Underground Storage Tanks, Tim became well-acquainted with the rules and regulations governing the safe storage and handling of petroleum products. Traveling across West Tennessee he discovered many interesting places to eat and get gas. And, in some cases, both.
Mississippi State University, Geosciences Distance Learning Program (Phase 2)
Back in the old stomping grounds for another go. Tim teaches many classes in both weather and climate.
