Mississippi State University Weather Webcast


Welcome to the Mississippi State University Broadcast Meteorology Program Webcasts.  They are conducted Monday - Friday during the Fall and Spring Semester and are recorded in the MSU Climate Lab.  The student weathercasters are in either their fourth year of undergraduate studies or second year of graduate studies in broadcast meteorology.


Below is a description of each webcast including a link to the webcast for viewing.  Also included is a description of the type of learning the students will be gaining by conducting each weathercast.  It is the philosophy of the Broadcast Meteorology Program to develop weathercasters capable of performing a wide variety of tasks for the always changing broadcasting business.

Webcast Descriptions




The Golden Traingle Forecast is geared towards providing a forecast for the Golden Triangle and surrounding areas.  It provides experience forecasting for a local area and delivering a hyperlocal forecast.  The duration of the Golden Triangle Forecast is between 2:30 and 3:30 long.

The Deep South Forecast is intended to give the student an opportunity to produce a regional forecast for the southern United States.  It will provide experience forecasting weather for multiple locations and delivering a television-style forecast that is roughly 2:30 to 3:30 in length.

The National Outlook is intended to give the students an chance to produce and deliver forecasts for the United States including focus on travel and major-market cities.  The weathercaster will gain a secondary knowledge of national geography and will strive to deliver this forecast within a 2 minute time frame.

National Outlook



The Severe Weather Outlook is a forecast devoted to severe and unusual weather, including severe weather outbreaks, tropical weather, and winter weather.  It is designed to give the students experience forecasting difficult weather and delivering it in an easy-to-understand manner.
