Introduction

Guidelines for Preparing Dissertations and Theses at Mississippi State University is intended to help graduate students organize the results of their research and present these results in the form of a scholarly document.  This manual complements the current Bulletin of Graduate Studies which contains general and departmental requirements for candidates pursuing advanced degrees and the various deadlines which candidates must meet.

All candidates for advanced degrees must confer with their advisors and graduate coordinators to learn about specific departmental requirements for the preparation and presentation of graduate degree documents.  Students writing a thesis or dissertation should remember that all theses and dissertations will be checked by the Technical Services Office of Mitchell Memorial Library to ensure conformity with this document prior to final reproduction.

This set of guidelines is intended to provide uniform standards for the preparation of all theses and dissertations at Mississippi State University.  Consequently, it is important for candidates to familiarize themselves with these regulations before beginning work on their theses or dissertations.  This update to the third edition replaces all existing guidelines.

Candidates are encouraged to contact the Technical Services office for answers to questions they may have concerning the formal preparation or submission of a dissertation or thesis.
