I published 5 books (some of which were reprinted electronically) before
I retired; wrote some articles; served in administration; and created
the Historical Text Archive. The last has had and will have more impact
because so many people access it. It gets between 18 million and 20
million page views A YEAR. On it, I publish 682 articles, 68 books and
5939 links. Some of what the HTA publishes is original sources.
At djmabry.org/art, I maintain a historical photographs site,
photographs that I have taken.
I am working on a history of the Jacksonville, FL beaches; some of the
material currently exists at djmabry.org.
Paula and I travel abroad several times a year in addition to traveling
within the US.
We are very involved in the Starkville Community Theatre.

John F. Marszalek retired in 2002 as a Giles Distinguished Professor Emeritus. He taught courses in the Civil War, Jacksonian America, and Race Relations. He produced over twenty doctoral and masters graduates, a number of whom are published scholars. He is the author or editor of thirteen books and over two hundred fifty articles and book reviews. Sherman, A Soldier˙ŭs Passion for Order was a finalist for the Lincoln Prize, and his first book Court Martial, A Black Man in America was made into a Showtime motion picture and reissued as a paperback under the new title Assault at West Point. President Bill Clinton presented the family of the wronged black West Point cadet a posthumous Army commission during a White House ceremony. Along with Charles D. Lowery, he edited The Encyclopedia of African American Civil Rights, which the Library Journal named one of the best reference books of 1992. Three of his books have been History Book Club Selections. His latest book is A Black Congressman in the Age of Jim Crow, South Carolina˙ŭs George Washington Murray (2006). He continues to lecture widely throughout the nation and has appeared on the major television networks. He serves on the board of advisors of the Lincoln Forum, the Lincoln Prize, the national Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, and the Monitor Museum (Newport News, Virginia). Canisius College named him a distinguished alumnus, he received the Richard Wright Literary Award (life time achievement by a Mississippi author), and the Mississippi Historical Society presented him its highest award, the B.L.C. Wailes Award for national distinction in history. He and his wife, Jeanne, have established Library Fund Endowments at Mississippi State University and Canisius College. He is a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. Since January 2004, he has served in the part-time position of Director and Mentor of Distinguished Scholars, the holders of Mississippi State˙ŭs most prestigious undergraduate scholarships. He is presently researching a book on the development of the mythology surrounding Robert E. Lee and William T. Sherman.

Since retirement in 1996, I have published five works: Frank Blair:
Lincoln's Conservative (University of Missouri Press, 1998); The History
of Phi Gamma Delta, 1925-1996 (The Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta,
1998); Westminster College, An Informal History, 1851-1999 (Westminster
College, 2000); A History of Missouri, 1860-1875, rev. ed. (University
of Missouri Press, 2001); Missouri: The Heart of the Nation, 3d ed.,
with Charles T. Jones, Jr. & Lawrence Christensen (University of
Missouri Press, 2004).
I have also seen the completion of a six-volume
history of Missouri, published by the University of Missouri Press, in
2004, for which I served as General Editor, which began in 1971, thus
finishing a thirty year project. In spring 2000 I served as Aspinall
Professor of History at Mesa State College, Grand Junction, Colorado. I
also continue active on the lecture circuit, as Historian for the
Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, and in various capacities in Phi Alpha
Theta and the Mississippi Historical Society.
