Guide to Living in Aiken Village (PDF)

Family housing at Mississippi State is designed to provide reasonably priced housing for student families. We believe a student's residential environment is an integral part of his or her total educational experience. Living in Aiken Village is an excellent way to expand your cultural and educational horizons. The complex is located on College View Street, and transportation is available through the university Shuttle system.

This family housing complex has 266 unfurnished apartments-59 one bedroom (about 405 square feet) and 207 two-bedroom (about 570 square feet). Each apartment has a 12-month lease, including university recesses and summer terms. All apartments have a living room/dining room area, kitchen, and bathroom. Each apartment has a gas furnace and water heater, cable TV, telephone, and bathtub with shower. Air conditioning was not provided in the past, but a 220-volt outlet is located in the living room for personal air conditioner installation. At this writing (09/01/02), every apartment has at least one air conditioning unit; some are personal units and some are MSU units.

Pets are not permitted in the complex. Major appliances such as freezers, dishwashers, or clothes washers and dryers are not allowed. Aiken Village has a laundry facility that is open from 7:00 a.m to 7:00 p.m. every day with all other times available via card access.

To be eligible, you must: be Married and living with your spouse with one but no more than two dependents, or a single parent living with no more than three dependents; qualify as a full-time student, taking at least 12 undergraduate or 9 graduate academic hours; and be making normal progress toward a degree as determined by the head of your college or school.

Maximum length of stay in Aiken Village is eight years. Maximum number of occupants is four for a two-bedroom and three for a one-bedroom. Applications may be submitted with no application fee required. Once an apartment has become available for you, a $200 deposit must then be submitted. If your application is withdrawn before you are assigned an apartment, there is no penalty.

To apply, submit an Aiken Village application. Applications are placed on a waiting list in chronological order based on the dates they are received. Since tenants are required to give only 45 days notice before moving, our office is unable to provide advance notice of apartment assignment. Please remember that filing an application for a particular semester does not guarantee an assignment for the semester requested.

Any changes in your marital status or your number of family members must be reported immediately. Additionally, it is very important that we have your current address and phone number. If we cannot contact you, you will not receive an assignment in Aiken Village. If we are unable to reach you we will keep your application on file for six months. After that time, you will be taken off the waiting list.
