Mississippi State University Housing and Residence Life

Studies show that students who live on campus generally make better grades, become more involved in campus activities, and are more likely to have a positive college experience and graduate than those who live off campus. Over ninety percent of freshman at Mississippi State live on campus. Freshman housing is designed to make your experience positive and to help you adjust to being away from home in a unique setting. You will have the opportunity to settle in and get to know the people who live on your floor, in your hall, and in other freshman halls. The resident assistants are trained to assist you with most of the problems new students face. They provide activities during the first six weeks and throughout the semester to help you get to know the campus and the other students. Academic assistants are there to help you with academic problems or concerns, and hall associations give you the opportunity to try out leadership positions at Mississippi State University.

After the freshman halls are filled, freshmen will be assigned to spaces in upperclass halls. Some students also may be assigned temporarily to Herbert Hall, our year-round conference facility, until permanent spaces are available (usually about three weeks after the halls open). All first-year students are invited to freshman activities, and our staff will make every effort to support them, regardless of where they live.
