Marion Harris, of Ford Motor
Company was selected as the College of Arts
and Sciences Alumni Fellow for 2005. Mr. Harris visited campus
and gave a colloquium to the department. (See related

- September 3, 2005. The
Math Domain officially opens. (See related article.)
- Fall Semester, 2005. Dr. Jane
L. Harvill and Dr. Kevin Knudson received tenure and were promoted to
the rank of associate professor. Dr. Seongjai Kim
was hired as an associate professor. Dr. Kim was previously empolyed
at the University of Kentucky. Marjorie
Crittenden was hired as an Instructor.
- July, 2005. The Department sponsored a one-month Algebra Project Summer
Program for mathematics and language instruction. Thirty-one
African-American students from Lanier High School in Jackson, MS stayed on MSU
campus. Dr. Robert P. Moses address a group of 120 students,
partents, faculty, and campus officials at the banquet on the final
night of this program. The summer program was organized by Dr. Michael
Neumann and sponsored by the Center for Urban Education and Innovation at
Florida International
University, the Algebra
Project and Mississippi
State University.

- Spring Semester, 2005. Dr. Kevin Knudson received 2005 College of Arts
and Sciences Outstanding Faculty Research Award.
- May, 2005. Master's Level Teaching Assistant of the Year
2005 Award at Mississippi State University awarded to Nibiao Zheng.
Mr. Zheng completed his M.S. in Statistics in August, 2005 under the
direction of Dr. Jane Harvill.
- May 13-14, 2005. The Sixth
Mississippi State University - University of Alabama-Birmingham
Conference on Differential Equations and Computational Simulations
honoring Louis Nirenberg and Klaus Schmitt
hosted by the Department. (See related article.)
- April 21, 2005. The
Algebra Project colloquium by Dr.
Ed Dubinsky of Kent State University.

- February 14, 2005. The Department hosted a day of mathematics
activities for about 55 students of The
Algebra Project at Lanier High School in Jackson, Mississippi.
