For a small program that is relatively new, the PhD program in Public Policy and Administration at MSU has some very noteworthy accomplishments. Its impressive placement record of graduates includes at least two students at such nationally-recognized universities as Rutgers and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Byron Price is an Assistant Professor of Public Administration at Rutgers University at its Newark campus. At MSU, Byron served as a Visiting Research Associate at the Social Science Research Center one summer, and co-authored two chapters in a book with a political science professor, among his many accomplishments.
Dr. Bill Rivenbark is an Assistant Professor of Public Administration and Government in the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill's School of Government. At MSU, Rivenbark served as a Research Analyst in the Stennis Institute of Government. His journal publications as a PhD student at MSU included one based on questions he included in the department's Mississippi Poll.
Students currently in the PhD program at MSU are professionally active, presenting papers at professional association meetings and publishing in scholarly books or journals. James Newman is an ABD who has already co-authored a referee journal article and a chapter in a university press book with two MSU political science professors. He has been a leader on an NSF grant that surveyed the attitudes and behavior of political party organization members in Mississippi, and has presented numerous papers at professional association meetings.
Barbara Patrick is a second year PhD student who has already co-authored two chapters in university press books. A Southern Regional Education Board Doctoral Fellow, she has also presented numerous papers at professional association meetings.
